Little League Baseball and Softball

May 18, 2020

District Staff Members:

The 2020 Little League® Season Resumption Guide is available and is accompanied by a pre-start checklist webinar that was developed to assist you and your leagues in deciding how to start planning for this season. Regardless of what phase of reopening your community is currently in, the intent is to offer some form of regular season opportunity for each of your Little Leaguers® and volunteers.

On Thursday, May 21, at 5 p.m. ET, Little League will host a Facebook Live forum to discuss the best practices for resuming play as described in the Little League season resumption guide. You are strongly encouraged to join the conversation.

As we notified you on Friday, voting is now open for the Regional Roundtable agenda items. Please note that the voting closes 5 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Friday, May 22.

We request that you make every effort to review and share the information provided below with your district staff and act as liaisons with your local leagues, so that each can stay focused on a return to the fun and games of Little League.

Insurance Coverage: There have been many questions about local league insurance, including cancellation policies. Direction for answering these questions is available on LittleLeague.org/2020InsuranceFAQ . Even if any of your leagues have decided to cancel the 2020 regular season, Little League International highly recommends that every local Little League program maintain their insurance coverage. A series of new Insurance FAQs have been added that outline the process for leagues to consider canceling their insurance, and the cancellation process is available through the Data Center. Leagues should fully understand all impacts of canceling insurance prior to completing the Data Center process for leagues who utilize the AIG Insurance Program for Little League. This program is administered by Keystone Risk Managers LLC (“Keystone”) and is not an insurance program run through Little League directly. For additional questions regarding insurance coverage, please contact Brent Stahlnecker, Little League Director of Risk Management, at bstahlnecker@LittleLeague.org or David Irwin, CIC, CWCA, AU Chief Underwriting Officer, Property Casualty Business Development at Keystone Insurance Group, dirwin@keystoneinsgrp.com.

2020 Charter Fee Refund: Earlier this month, each chartered league’s 2020 charter fee was credited to its account. The credits were applied through the Little League® Data Center and were based on the number of teams each chartered for this season.

Help Leagues Support their Families: Dr. Darrell Burnett, a child psychologist, long-time local league volunteer, and former member of the Little League International Board of Directors, provided his perspective on dealing with stress and anxiety while adhering to social distancing.

Financial Guidance: The fiscal transparency of a local league or district will be even more important in 2020. Use the Finance Guide to provide guidance and directions on how to manage these types of questions.

Coronavirus FAQs: The list of common questions about COVID-19 has been updated. Use it to provide information to your leagues.

Please continue to check LittleLeague.org/Coronavirus for the latest updates and guidance. A new resource, Best Practices on Organizing, Playing, And Watching Little League® Baseball and Softball During the Coronavirus Pandemic, will be available in the very near future. Please continue to send any updates to SeasonUpdate@LittleLeague.org.

Reference the LittleLeague.org website and the Little League Baseball and Softball social media platforms on Facebook (facebook.com/LittleLeague), Twitter (twitter.com/LittleLeague), and Instagram ( Instagram.com/LittleLeague) for the latest information on Little League activities and information.

Weekly briefs for District staff members will continue as we prepare for the resumption of league and district activities as soon as possible.
