Hi All,

There have been a couple questions on CBO (Continuous Batting Order) and the Little League “must play” rule. So I asked for the official ruling from Little League from Western Region on the interpretation of Reg IV(i) Note 5. Some leagues have interpreted the rule (and it looks this way in the “book”) that you don’t have to give a player 6 defensive outs if you use CBO… that is not correct, even though the “book” appears to say differently. You DO have to give the player 6 defensive outs even if using CBO… And so here is the answer from Western…. Failure to abide by this mandatory play rule in a game means the player has to make up the innings in the very next game. There will also be notes on this in the District Tournament packet coming out in a couple of weeks as part of this clarification.

Mandatory Play is applicable for all divisions of play below the Senior division and includes 6 defensive outs and inclusion in the continuous batting order. We understand that there is some confusion with the verbiage of Reg IV(i) Note 5, which should be corrected shortly
