Yay for “dirt mounds”. While we use them in some leagues, the leagues that don’t use them have better looking fields 😊

(And I think the pitchers pitch better from dirt – personally).

Thanks Glen—I have already sent the specs etc. to Kit and she has forwarded to Jake for presentation to the tournament committee. If you’re talking about my neighbors to the east, the mounds that his league purchased were an inch too tall (because they didn’t ask him or check the rules) My host league for Intermediates are the ones who are loaning him mounds that are the correct height for that age division.😊 I believe those mounds are in the process of being approved this week as well, but I would certainly hope that as long as they’re the right size according to the rule book and they’re brand new, then they should be approved even if they aren’t the Tru Pitch brand—I could be wrong on this, but I don’t think it’s "legal" to force leagues to purchase a certain name brand of pitching mound when there are perfectly good alternative brands out there that fit the right specs. I thought there was a word for that in capitalist economic systems, lol 😂🤷🏼‍♀️

That being said, I always thought that only you guys over on the wet-side of the state were into the portable pitching mounds because you tend to have more turf fields and a lot more spring/summer rain etc.; I was shocked when my host league for Intermediate said they were using one because we have only ever had dirt mounds around here, except for maybe in the bullpens. But it's obvious that portable mounds are starting to become the norm more and more, regardless of where you live--I'm told by my host league here that it's because dirt mounds are becoming super expensive and difficult for volunteers to maintain.

Have a Great Monday,

Kim

I'm fine with portable mounds.

Be sure to get the model number and specs to West Region ASAP. One of the districts in the state has been turned down and scrambled to find a replacement. There was nice inter-district cooperation to get this solved to the benefit of the players and teams.

D8 is also fine with portable mounds.

We will be using them during the Baseball 8-9-10 State Tournament, and was included with the bracket I sent to Western Region for approval.

Note, we use TruePitch portable mounds, since those are the ones approved by Little League.

D4 is fine with portable mounds, we use them during districts at many fields.

One thing I should probably let everyone know about the one Intermediate field that we have in my district is that I didn't find out until yesterday, AFTER I had already finished and sent out the manager packet that my host league purchased a brand new portable 8 inch pitching mound to use for this tournament.  I had not been out to their facility since early spring and they didn't realize that this was something that I needed to have approved if we're hosting anything above districts...

I have an email in to Kit/Tournament Committee asking for permission to use it and I anticipate that it will be approved; but that being said, I could use your help spreading the word to managers that there most likely be a portable mound and that means that pitchers are going to be asked/required to use turf shoes and not metal cleats when they are pitching. I will personally make sure to let your winning managers know as I touch base with each of them before they drive over here as well!

Thank you,

Kim
