Holy cow Kim you are right. The statement about notarized medical release forms is in what I sent out. That is pretty embarrassing. I must have copied a VERY old version of my boilerplate. It goes to show that I should actually read the whole thing every year and make appropriate edits more carefully.

I have been haranguing my fellow DAs about making sure this clause got removed from all of our documents for several years, and here it is in mine.

Note to all. Medical release forms will NOT be inspected to see if they have a notary stamp at the Major baseball tournament. I’ll update the guidelines now.

Thanks,

Pat

Ok great 👍 thank you! Perhaps going forward, could I suggest that we stop putting language talking about notarized documents in our state tournament packets? I’m pretty sure it’s mentioned in this year’s Major baseball state packet from D2 as well—what happens is that when we actually have league presidents and/or team managers who take the time to read the packet thoroughly, they see that written in there and then freak out, thinking that they’re not properly prepared and that their team will be turned away from the next tournament level. Clearly this is an unnecessary stressor to add to an already stressful enough situation for parents and teams trying to make preparations to travel across the state on short notice, etc…

Please don’t inconvenience the parents’ time and money on a document that Little League does not require be carried with the team.

It’s not required… just trying to make sure if someone gets hurt we have all our bases covered…  a “belt and suspenders” kind of approach.

I will forward this around again and see if we can drum up any more help for you…

Also, we have a question/concern about the medical release forms having to be notarized for the juniors tournament—are you saying they have to be notarized or else the team can’t play? Or were you just making a “warning” so that teams are aware that they may not be accepted by a local hospital if a child gets injured and his parents aren’t there?

Subject: [Wadas] Still short on Umpires

Hi All,

We are still desperately short on umpires for BOTH 8-10 and Juniors – 8-10 starts on the 22nd and Juniors on the 15th. We have umps for the weekend schedules but very few for during the week of play.

Any help will be appreciated. Both tournaments are short in filling the schedule. Behind the plate adult umps are what is needed.
