GameChanger is owned by Dick’s Sporting Goods, a top-line sponsor of Little League.

For Tournaments, I operate with paper as the main scorekeeping mechanism. I would be willing to allow a second scorekeeper to handle the official GameChanger log, as it would be a good cross-check. But then again, when have we ever had extra scorekeepers around? LOL
When there is a question and someone says “but GameChanger shows <X>…”, the response is “paper rules”, which now-a-days, might not hold as much water given how much we see Little League pushing GameChanger while still espousing “paper rules.”
In a lot of instances, a parent spectator on at least one team, if not both, are running their own instance of Game Changer, let alone streaming the game from a camera mounted on the fence (obviously not in play and not causing an issue with the pitcher, catcher, umpire, or scorekeeper). Perhaps I could get one of them to come and sit with us at the Scorekeepers table. I am open to new ideas and will see how that goes. And yes, we do our best to confirm that GameChanger data is not being accessed by anyone in the dugouts, run by someone outside.
Please note that when I scorekeep at the JLSWS in Kirkland and at the Regional Tournaments in San Bernardino, there are multiple people, each handling one specific job:
- Paper scorekeeper
- GameChanger scorekeeper
- Baseball, there is a pitch counter
And at the end of each half inning, and sometimes batter, we all confirm with each other that we are all on the same page for counts, plays, “what just happened”, “is that a hit or an error or a single with an advance, …), defensive moves, pitches, … Its an awesome cross-check. Each only handles 1 job, but I regularly do each of these at these games.
We have all been in a situation during a game where we have a “NPA” issue. (not paying attention 😊 )
Given that we have GameChanger at the World Series and Regional levels, its only a matter of time…
One of the biggest issues is when there is a technology glitch—and that is one of the key reasons why we still stick to paper in D8, besides just having enough volunteers to handle scorekeeping, pitch counting, and announcers. Game Changer is waaaaaay down on that list.
Yes, GameChanger is technology, and it can be daunting to those that are “challenged” by tech, let alone want to stay “old school”.
I have signed up for this class next week, but I also have my real paying job and if my meetings run long that day for work, LL will take a backseat.
