We will be discussing this at our next district staff meeting.  My opinion is that we should support the contribution even though we often send our umpires to the Portland or formerly Vancouver Outreach clinic.  Seattle is not too far to travel, but if you can attend a clinic locally it can help to keep the cost down

I will be making a case for district 4 to send $150 to the Seattle outreach clinic.  Although we might not have any umpires in attendance, we will benefit from the crews sent from the greater Seattle area who service our state tournaments especially when the crews have had umpire training.

It's not a well known fact but over the last couple of years the umpires chosen for plate assignments for championship games at World Series sites have been or have had ties to the Pacific Northwest.  Two years ago 5 of the 7 umpires chosen were from Washington, Idaho, and Oregon.  Last year I believe 3 of them met the same criteria.  This does not include the umpires who have been awarded base assignments as well.

This also holds true for Western Region assignments.  In Montana last year 3 of the 4 umpires working the championship game were from the Pacific Northwest.

A dollar spent on the training of umpires in Washington is a worthy investment.  Bill's concern for affordable registration fees with rising costs are a large factor for me in convincing my fellow district officers in voting to support the $150 contribution from District 4.

Bob,

I understand your concern. The Seattle Outreach has been self supporting since it's inception. That is why Dennis is willing to share the profit/loss info with any district asking to see it. The point is that registration fees have been pretty stable for years, but bringing in the instructors, accommodations, meals for the instructors and lunch for the students, and facility rental costs considerably more than they did a decade ago. Dennis and I are simply trying to keep registration fees down to a reasonable level. Most leagues don't reimburse these fees and we want to make sure that the local league umpires across Washington State can still afford top level training at a reasonable cost. Help from the districts will allow us to do that.

Good Morning All,

Attached is the flyer for the 2025 Washington State Little League Umpire Mechanics Clinic.

As we are all aware, the cost of these events is increasing every year. In order to keep this event affordable, we are asking each district to contribute $150.00. This event (Formerly the Western Region Seattle Outreach) has been self supporting since it's inception, and Dennis Williams will supply a 2024 profit/loss statement to anyone who wishes. We are simply looking to keep from passing rising overhead costs on to your umpires personally.

Regards and Happy Holidays,
