Sorry for the delay....came home from day 1 and had to sew patches onto jerseys for the D11 team. Yeah, apparently I suck at saying 'no.'

Anyway, day 1 (Saturday) went well. 

Game 1: D8 over D9 9-6

Game 2: D4 over D2 8-3

Game 3: D1 over D6 20-0

Felt bad for the D6 kiddos. They were the most impacted by D3's last minute exit, changing them from a 2:00 Sunday game to a 3:00 Saturday game. When trying to build the new 7-team bracket, the bracket builder had a glitch (Rob L and I worked on that). Long story short (b/c hey, it's tournament season and we're all fried), finally got the updated bracket sent out late Thursday night. 

After the Friday manager's meeting I told the D6 manager that I'd see him tomorrow. He responded that they were playing on Sunday.... Between the late night email and the updated bracket being in the folder we gave him, he didn't notice the change. So his kiddos scrambled to get up here in time. They play again tomorrow and I'm hoping to see them play more like they want to...

Funny from Day 1. One of the pitchers from D1 was having issues with his shoes slipping when he was pitching, so the manager went out the field, took off HIS shoes, gave them to the player, and then walked back to the dugout in his socks, carrying the kid's shoes. Next at bat the kid hit a triple. When the manager was signing his pitching records I inquired if he'd gotten his shoes back. "Heck no, the kid hit a triple, those shoes are gone." 

Fast forward to day 2. D1 is playing, the manager goes out to have a mound visit, so I get on the PA and say, "Gil, give him your shoes." Lots of parent laughter.

Day 2 (Sunday)

Game 4: D11 over D8 19-6

Game 5: D4 over D1 6-3

Not gonna lie, I enjoyed game 4. This is my sixth state tourney as a parent, and my boys now have a game record of 2-10. You all know as well as I do, D11 isn't competitive in baseball at state tourneys, so the victory was sweet. 

Game 5 was honestly the best game we've had yet in terms of good baseball. It was close, it was competitive, and it was fun to watch. 

The parents have done pretty well; we do a 6th inning 'stretch' each game and make them all join in singing the 'National Anthem of Baseball'. They're getting the hang of it. 

Looking forward to more good baseball tomorrow, and crossing my fingers the manager from D1 remembers to pack some extra shoes.
