Hi Amy,

  The 8-9-10 and 9-10-11 age levels for BOTH Baseball and Softball only have District and State tournament levels.  State is the end of the line for them.

Only at the “Little League” level and above does the State Champion move on to Regionals and possibly the World Series.  “Little League” is also sometimes called “Majors” or “10-11-12”

I cannot confirm the dates yet for 8-10 SB in D4.  We may not be able to host during these assigned dates.  More to come once I am able to meet with the president of the league.  Not that I expect we would be impacted, but it seems the state dates don't allow for players from 8-10 or 9-11 SB to participate at the Regional level if their team is not eliminated very early.  Am I reading this correctly?

I don't like the thought of having 5 state tournaments all at the same time.  I don't think we have been fortunate enough to have teams advance to Regionals since my son played.  We had 8 days to raise funds and that was tight.  If 12 days between tournaments is too long and five too short, can there be a meeting in the middle, say June 30 to July 6?  Odd start and end dates that maybe no one likes due to families' schedules and traveling.  I would vote to keep them as is. starting June 28 if these are the only two options we have.

So, my vote from D8 is:  Move out a week:  July 5 – July 12

More on All Stars:  We will have a league with a Senior Softball team for the first time that anyone can remember here in District 8.  The team has been chartered by one of my leagues, which is the requirement in order to be able to charter an All Star team.  So, we as DA’s need to find out if there will be others, and if so, we will need to determine a State Tournament.  Last year, I know that D2-North Kitsap Poulsbo had a team.  This needs to be discussed across the WA DA’s.

Lastly, I will NOT be in Ontario on March 15.  I have a year long project at work that culminates with a system-wide deployment the weekend of March 15-16.  So I would prefer a meeting in April and have no problems driving to Richland (and being Toigo’s chauffer).

I vote for the week later start dates. State tournaments that begin in late June are way too early for my leagues, which is part of the reason we have such a difficult time "selling" the teen divisions over here...

By the way, ARE we meeting down in Ontario on Saturday evening, or do I still need to schedule a meeting location for a late April meeting here in Richland?

We did not approve state tournament dates at our fall meeting because of concern that we would be starting some tournaments too early. 

I have attached the original proposal. I have highlighted the two tournaments that people thought were too early. Last year with the same interval between state and regionals as these teams would have, some people complained there wasn't enough time to get from state to regionals. 

Since my teams have been in that situation for intermediate the last two years, and made it fine, I prefer the alternative dates of starting the two highlighted tournaments a week later. This means five tournaments would start on the same date. This may create a shortage of umpires able to travel, but my experience the last few years is that we have had very few umpires travel, anyway, except for baseball majors. 

Please give me a vote for Original - Option 1 / or the highlighted one with the two baseball tournaments moved a week later - Option 2. 

Note my change of email address. This is due to a Microsoft screw up with my email account that lost years of historical emails that helped keep me informed when things came up. It crashed Jan. 1 and none of it was recoverable - although I have kept the ones that have blank sender areas, no readable message, a subject line of <No Subject> and the actual date and time sent in hopes that someday I can figure out how to get them back. I was able to get on the server and download everything for 9 months prior to the crash. Sorting through more than 10,000 emails, figuring out which I had taken action on and which I still needed to take action on. Luckily, senility hasn't crept in, so other than the sheer volume, I didn't have too much trouble with the sorting. I'm not a fan of Google, but I can no longer trust Outlook as a reliable email vehicle. 

Please give me your vote for schedules by Wednesday, Feb. 19.
