All, Day 6 was reasonably uneventful with only one or two “glitches in the matrix”… more on those in a minute. Scores: Everett LL 12 – South Hill 0 – Eliminated Mercer Island LL 3 – Willapa Harbor 2 (loser bracket) Teams Remaining, Everett (1 loss), Mercer Island (no losses), Willapa Harbor (1 Loss) Game time tonight 7:30 – temps today around 97 degrees, probably 85 by game time. Willapa Vs. Everett – should be a great game. We did have the manager of the Willapa team question the eligibility of an “injured” player who was out a game and returned to pitch (he had a gun). The process was reviewed and the player and manager were in compliance. The other incident involved Everett whose third coach was running late for the game. The manager requested another coach take their place as “he is on the affidavit” according to the manager. Tournament staff initially said “yes – it’s OK”. This request to add the “replacement coach” came at the umpire plate meeting. The tournament staff, while reviewing the request and checking the affidavit found the replacement coach was not on the affidavit, and in fact NO replacement coaches had been named or vetted. Before the first pitch, the tournament staff went and removed the coach, and placed a call to Western advising of the situation… The coach on the affidavit eventually showed up (second inning I think) and was allowed in the game. When confronted the Everett Manager said “well I thought I had him listed”. The errant replacement coach also had at one point indicted he was an ADA…. I raised my eyebrow and let the kids play…. Thinking to myself – “maybe the heat made the manager forgetful”. How can you not know who is on your affidavit after All-Star selection, Districts, and now State? Hmmm… must be the heat. Since play had not started officially, there was no “foul”… other than potentially some honesty. I said potentially 😊 – giving the guy the benefit of the doubt. I am off to my next tournament today – we have Managers Meeting tonight for the 8-10s. First pitch is 9:00 AM tomorrow and it’s gonna be 99-100 degrees sometime tomorrow in Othello.
