Hello everyone, In my opinion, our state government made a mistake when they used the word "Tournament". For example, my District has a 7 field facility, maintained by four different leagues. In a month, the four different leagues will be playing games on those seven fields all day long. There is no tournament, just regular season games. To the best of my knowledge this is fine just as long as we make sure not to exceed the maximum number of spectators on any given field and follow proper mask and social distancing guidelines. Now if our All Star tournaments were to be held at that same facility, we'd have two games going on, while most likely the other 5 fields sat empty. But yet per state guidelines we couldn't play because it is a "Tournament". I know the state's intent was to eliminate large gatherings of people, and their thought was that they could do so by eliminating "Tournaments". This is what happens when you have people who "Aren't in the know" making policy. But it's life, it happens. Personally, I do not know a lot about the state cup, but if it's one game on one field, and rules are put in place to limit the number of attendees and follow proper mask and social distancing guidelines, I'm fine with it. They have teams from all over the state participating. I sent them an email to find out how they are able to do so. Below is the response I received. The basic gist of this is that their regular program is comprised of teams from all over the state who play each other during the season. So their "tournament" is being viewed as year end league games rather than a tournament. This begs the question for us. Is there a way to structure our "year end" program to a point that we could also comply? We already have inter-league play within the district and often between districts. This seems like we'd need some direct discussions with the State of Washington folks. Group games and quarterfinal are set like any league games. Semi and final will be set like you are playing a league game at Starfire where teams come to play their game and leave after the game.
