D13 Gives gifts of note to umpires that are at ANY tournament for us for more than 2 games… State or District. We have given out jackets, umpire equipment, T-shirts, ball bags, etc. We also often will cook them special dinners from the host league or have taken some out for steaks. Also note, we have been getting an ever larger set of Junior umpires, so this year (this Saturday) we are hosting our very first Tournament Umpire Mechanics Clinic where we will be teaching 3 and 4 man crew, and some of the intricacies of Tournament play and rules vs just normal regular season games. Any Junior umpire will get their “volunteer hours” signed for their High Schools. Lastly, for any of our D8 umpires who travel to other Districts for their State Tournaments, we will offer to reimburse them for some of their travel expenses. Realizing I had forgotten to do umpire gifts this year, I am now giving out coffee cups with a key holder for umpire gifts this year. Since I have watched umpires looking for their keys on the floor or "which table," I thought attaching them to a cup would make it easier for them to keep track of them.
