Hi All, We managed to score a couple press folks for the 8-10 Baseball tournament - they came out the week before and did a piece on the fields and the rebuild/redesign of those, then they came back for the semi-final and did interviews with tournament staff, then more came back for the championship game. All, The Championship is in the books. Great day for baseball, great fans, players were excited, it was all good. Weather at game time was 80 degrees, light and variable winds, and 12% Humidity . Final Score Magnolia 3 Kirkland 7 Was a close game up until the 5th inning and Kirkland broke out 4 runs. Magnolia answered with one in the 5th but that was all they could do. The umpire crew was near perfect, and the folks to a person said it was one of the best tournaments they had been to. Thanks all for your help See you in October JP DA WA5/13

Hi All, Another glorious day in Othello… high today probably gonna be in the low-to-mid 90s. As we move into the last game(s), I’d like to thank everyone who has helped out… the guys from D4 early on helped and were a great presence on the field to help create well officiated and pleasurable games for all. Dave from D12 – Kim, thanks for this guy, he was the umpiring anchor during the mid week! And of course the team from D13 that showed up last night… Fresh off of State where they worked with World Series class umpires, and man does it show. I was proud of the D13 team that just volunteered… maybe all my whining and pushing is paying off. 😊 The fans have been great, not too much to complain about there… they were all very well behaved and some of them really learned the pleasures of “small town life”… I overheard two moms talking, one said to the other “You know when they say it takes 20 minutes to go somewhere, it’s really 20 minutes”…. Yep, that and if you live here, all your neighbors know where you are going, why you are going, what you are going to do when you get there, when you will be back, and who is going with you. And probably what you ate while you were there. Another mom said to a guy she was standing next to, who I think was a dad of a team mate, “You know, we really had to work to figure out what to do when we weren’t playing, but when we did, we spent more time doing it, I don’t think I’ve talked to my kids this much in a long time”. And she wasn’t complaining or being snarky. The players have been a joy to be around. Pure joy. It makes me remember why we do this. I want to thank all the families, presidents, boards, leagues, and DAs for sending such a good group over for the 8-10s. In the third place game: Magnolia 11 Mill Creek 3 The umps were great last night. Thank you to Mill Creek whose Managers and Coaches were very good and a pleasure to work with. Good evening!!Our Championship game is set!!! Tonight's results are below:Game 23 Elimination gameD1 Pacific 0D9 Bellvue 7I would like to give a huge shoutout to D1!!! They were a class act all the way through this tournament. Their parents, coaches and players were absolutely amazing! Doug, thank you for sending such an amazing group up here. They are welcome here ANYTIME!!! The teams are set for tomorrow nights championship game!!Congrats to D12, Richland and to D9 Bellvue!! Both teams have played some amazing baseball during this past week. Tomorrow should be a great game and I am super excited to watch!One quick side note, I was talking to the parents of one of our Anacortes Little League volunteers tonight. They are both originally from Kirkland. The father mentioned to me that he played for Kirkland Little League when he was 12. He then told me that he had a lovely chat with his old DA last weekend, while at our State tournament. Any guesses on who it was? If you guessed the one and only Mr. Bob Toigo, you are correct!! I won't tell you how old the gentleman is, but I will tell you that his son is a few years younger than I am. What a small world!! I hope you all have an amazing night and if anyone would like to come up for our Championship game tomorrow, it's at 6 pm at Marguerite and Don Daniels field in Anacortes. The more, the merrier! Woodinville won the state title over Kirkland 13-3. This was a really fun tournament to run. Everyone was friendly and seemed to have a good time win or lose.

Hi All, Thursday is done and we see Bonney Lake depart in a tough loss to Magnolia Little League. Mill Creek gets sent to the losers bracket with Kirkland still on top. Weather is still good, food is still good, and the fields are still great. Gonna get WARM for Saturday though.high tomorrow (Friday) 89 and 93 on Saturday. The players are getting used to it by now . District 13 is sending over 3-4 umpires tomorrow and Saturday. these guys did the Juniors State Tournament - so we have a good solid crew for the last couple of days. And then there were 3....We said good bye to a very awesome D8 team from NE Seattle tonight. They were absolutely wonderful throughout the tournament and I was sad to see them go.The winners bracket game did not disappoint. It was a great game from start to finish. My District UIC said to me in between innings, that he hadn't seen such an energetic crowd since he did the Championship game in San Bernardino in 2015! In a great 3-2 game tonight, Kirkland eliminated Mukilteo. Mukilteo scored in the first and fifth as the visitors. Kirkland scored solo runs in the bottom of the fourth, fifth and sixth with a walk off single finishing a great game.

Hi All Baseball weather made to order.. That's what we've had in Othello the last couple of days. down more than 20 degrees from the scorching heat of the weekend. Lows in the lower 60s and highs in the lower 80s and not a cloud in the sky. Also if you would like to come out for the last couple of games the Quality Inn in Othello has lots of rooms available with teams clearing out. Little League price is down around $110 and includes breakfast- so cheap rooms and breakfast AND its one block away from the fields. don't even need to drive to them. For the rest of the meals, the whole town has some of the best taco trucks and Mexican restaurants I have had in a long time. yes I am eating way too much. plus the concession stand is outrageously good - wow! It was late after the games (around 8:30PM) the other night when I decided I would drive to the other side of town to a taco truck all the locals said was the best. The sun was setting and the air was soft and balmy with the light breeze and no clouds. The sunset was a red glow on the horizon, with the sky turning orange, then purple, then the dark blue growing in the east. I was by myself and thought it would be nice just to sit outside and relax. Being around a lot of people all day wears me out - I can only handle so many folks in a day, Besides, Othello gets to be one of those "sleepy small towns" after 8 PM. The taco truck was parked in a dusty vacant lot on the edge of town. In the vacant city block were a handful of cars parked in the dirt lot. It was getting to be a little past "dusk" and when I opened my truck door the sound of Mexican music from a stereo outside on a table near the truck wafted towards me. The taco truck owners had erected a permanent structure - a canopy made out of a few metal poles and some nsheet metal roofing over 8 or so wooden picnic tables out in front of the taco truck. No restaurant, no floor, just dirt under your feet, the taco truck, and about a half a dozen Little League families with the players still in uniform that were seated around the tables. Three or four younger kids were running around playing tag. On the side of the truck was a menu of about a hundred items - mostly written in Spanish - (Othello is 80+% Hispanic) - some of the items I hadn't seen in years since I lived down near the border in Texas. I carefully selected my dinner, and picked out a picnic table to sit on. As I watched the families, listened to the music, smelled the glorious smell of asada, camerones, and carnitas cooking, I was transported to another place. I felt peaceful, happy, and content seeing happy families enjoying something simple and easy. No video games, no phones, no Kindles, no iPads were out texting or taking selfies, no drama or yelling, just people sitting around talking, eating, and reliving the events of the day. I didn't talk to anyone sitting in my corner. I just listened and watched. Strangers were sharing stories with strangers, and people were being happy. You could see it on their faces, and hear it in their voices. "Civilians" were asking the Little Leaguers about the tournament. and in turn the Little League parents were asking the strangers about the town. As I sipped my Coke from an "old school" glass Coke bottle and ate an extremely satisfying dinner served on a paper plate with a plastic fork and knife, I watched the families and strangers leave one-by-one - everyone said goodbye to each other as they left - as if they had known each other for years even though they had just met at a Taco Truck in Othello. I stayed for another 20 minutes after the last person left, watching the days last hurrah on the sunset. I said my goodbye to the taco truck owners and headed back to the room. It was a good night that could not have been manufactured or planned. As I drove down the deserted streets to the hotel I didn't really have any thoughts which is rare for me. I was happy, full, and content. I slept well. Wanted to say thanks for Dave from the Tri-Cities (Thanks Kim!) for being the anchor at the plate for much of the tournament during the middle stretch of the week. The umpire situation is getting better now that we have fewer games to manage. The City of Othello continues to rock the tournament with perfect field prep and attention to the smallest details around the complex. Add to that, many "unaffiliated locals" are coming out to watch the games. Parents from the community are bringing their kids to watch the games, while older adults who are retired are coming out as well. It's quality entertainment in Othello courtesy of Little League! The games yesterday were outstanding - good baseball and no blowouts. Game Time Change Notification 8-10s

All, We are going make a suggestion to change the TIME of the game on Saturday for the Championship. Several of the parents and managers of teams have asked if we could move it up so they could return home earlier than 9PM on Saturday night. The game was originally scheduled for 6PM, all parties have agreed that 10AM would be more convenient for them. I am OK with this, the umpires are OK with this and the field hosts are OK with this. Is everyone else OK with this? If not we can leave it where it is. at 6PM on Saturday. Originally we had scheduled it later so more people could attend from the local community, and so that kids could rest up from the game the night before. Some managers (losing managers) have commented that to lose a game at 8:30PM and have to return to play the next day at 9:00 AM has been. "difficult". Apparently going home at decent hour trumps that thought, so 10AM is apparently "OK". Your thoughts all? OK to move it up? Regards JP DA WA5/13
