Hi All, We had a 4 game day . We have sent the other two games from day 2 earlier today. The final two games were: D9 Defeated D1 11-3 Game 3 D8 Defeated D 2 12-2 Game 4 Temps at the end of the 2nd Game were 101 degrees at the field, so we have moved the later 2 games to later in the day on the 4 game days. (We have a 4 game day on Tuesday) the 3rd and 4th games on the 4 game days have been moved to 4:30 and 7:30 to take advantage of the cooler temps. A cool front is moving through tonight so temps will drop into the 80s for highs for the next couple of days. We had a temperature of 82 tonight by the end of the 4th game. We played the 4th game with lights and the players seem to really like that - as did the fans appreciate the cooler temperatures at night. JP DA WA5/13

WA State Major Baseball Tournament - Day Two

Day 2 of the Washington State Major Baseball Tournament. Some really good games today. Weather was a little cooler, which was appreciated by all. See the updated game bracket attached. A summary follows: Game 6: D9 11 vs D2 1 Game 7: D12 3 vs D10 5 Game 8: D8 7 vs D7 1 Game 9: D4 1 vs D1 3 Game 10: D5 0 vs D3 16 - Loser Out Tomorrow we have to send 4 teams home. All the teams and fans have been great so far. Game 15: D9 vs D10 Game 16: D8 vs D1 Game 14: D2 vs D3 - Loser Out Game 11: D11 vs D12 - Loser Out Game 12: D6 vs D7 - Loser Out Game 13: D13 vs D4 - Loser Out Still working on a fix for the internet connection at the park. Unfortunately, it was not capable of streaming the games as we had hoped. We are working on bringing in another solution but that may take a few days. We'll leave the games scheduled on our events page and will go live as soon as we can. Urgent: Decision time on 8-10s Baseball

All, As you all know, we have had a team scratched from the 8-10 State Baseball. This means we have two choices, and I'd like to get your ideas on the options before we publish new brackets. Because we drop from a 13 team to 12 team bracket, it means that a couple things can happen. 1. Put the original draws into a 12 team bracket and let the "byes" shuffle a bit, with one team having to show up earlier than planned. OR 2. Try to play through the 13 team bracket as it stands. Problem with 1) All the schedules MAY change as to time and with one of the "byes" eliminated, there will be one team that has to show up earlier than planned, and one team that has to play earlier than planned. Problem with 2) It creates extra "byes" both in the winners and losers brackets, which means more sit time for teams, and a stress on the volunteer and umpire pool. Plus it may work out that it actually stretches the tournament a day to get all the loser slots played. Although both options have problems, Option 1 means only 1 team is "inconvenienced". The rest can keep nearly the same playing times. Option 2 seems pretty unworkable in the losers bracket. and creates odd pairings in possibly both brackets. Please let me know ASAP - I have option 1 ready to go. if that' the way that seems best to all. Regards JP DA WA5/13

Juniors State - Day 1.5

All, Scores below from yesterday and today (two games left to play today). Temps have been hovering near 100 both days. Teams seem to be holding up ok. Tournament and District staff have been checking on the teams during play each half inning. We have been looking for signs of heat exhaustion and dehydration. They have plenty of water, Gatorade, and ice. So far so good. We did have a segment in our managers meeting where we discussed recognizing the signs of heat exhaustion, dehydration and so forth. They were also briefed on how we would handle those situations. Managers were also briefed about what to do with teams when not playing so as not to invite poor performance. Swimming in 100 degree weather is not conducive to good play. JP only tangled with a fan once – and only once – as to where we allow putting cameras on the backstop, but the rest of the time has been pretty good…. Lots of “West-siders” were wondering what that big white thing in the sky was… we explained it very carefully that is it was something called “the sun” - and did it slowly, with lots of pictures and drawings in calm soothing voice so as not to frighten them… Oh, and we said, “ don’t look directly into it.” 😊 One of our tournament volunteers commented, “ I bet they wish their teeth were as white as their legs and arms” 😊 We did notice however that about halfway through the first game most of the crowd departed and went to the big casino which is about 10 minutes from the fields… Scores from Day 1.5 D8 -18 D11 – 1 D3 – 19 D12 – 1 D6 -1 D9 – 17 D10 – 15 D7 - 5 Regards JP DA WA5/13

Juniors Baseball Manager's meeting and other stuff

Hi All, For those of you sending teams to the Juniors State Baseball Tournament – THANK YOU! We appreciate everyone’s involvement. Also – the following details are important: 1. Manager’s meeting Saturday 10:00 at the field – Medical Lake High School 2. Pizza Party at Waterfront Park for all teams – please let Stacy know if you will be attending so the pizza count is correct. Parade tomorrow and opening ceremonies – check your packet for details 4. It’s going to be HOT! Make sure you have plenty of hydration materials. Saturday and Sunday should be in the upper 90s with possible temps over or near 100. It cools off a little next week starting Monday. 5. It is not allowed to set up pop ups, tents, awnings or the like on the side lines… The school does not allow… So we are setting up shade in the bleachers near home plate. The outfield bleachers fans will need an umbrella. 6. NO DOGS – not allowed on school grounds. And it’s going to be HOT – so leave Rover elsewhere… 7. Our District 13 UIC has done a great job coordinating umpires… we should have 4 man crews for most of the tournament… no small feat considering we are not in with the “West side elites” 😊 (just kidding). District Administrators (Please pass this on to your district and Leagues social media administrators) During the COVID-19 pandemic, many tournaments were streamed online... Now... We have scams that have followed. I have noticed that Scammers have infiltrated many of our Washington State District's and league's social media pages (mostly Facebook) with links to fake LIVE streams. The scam post will be in the form of a comment on the District's or league's social media posts about team championships or good luck in the upcoming tournaments. Under the comments look for a post like this: The scammer hopes the victim will click the link and enter their information and pay to watch the event, however, the victim will be unable to watch the stream even after their information is entered - Instead, the data the victim just entered will be compromised. These comments can be removed by the person who is the administrator of the district or league social media page - thus no one will see it and can not get scammed. _(always block the person 1st and then delete the post -_ _If you delete the post 1st, you can't block them from posting it again)_ Here are some quick tips for fans, parents, grandparents, and or other family members on how to stay safe online: 1. REMEMBER - IF A GAME IS STREAMED (By a Parent or League) IT WILL BE FREE - THERE IS NO CHARGE, SO DON'T ENTER CREDIT CARD INFORMATION * Be cautious clicking on links included in social media posts, unsolicited text messages, or emails. Clicking on unfamiliar links can place you at risk for malware or identity theft.
