All, We have gotten word today from LLI that the World Series and the Regional Tournaments are cancelled due to the Corona Virus. They also asked us to make every effort to have a District or POSSIBLY state tournaments if allowed. Of course the requirement and guidance is to Follow the local health or state health guidelines. So – we are still in our same “local” holding pattern until we see what Governor Inslee says between now and May 4. Keep in your minds to try to play games this summer, don’t cancel anything just yet if you can help it. We are having another State DAs meeting in a few days to re-assess one more time. All, Here are the minutes from last nights' DA meeting for the State. Some Districts in Washington have ALL leagues planning on playing a summer season sometime after May 11. However, some Districts cannot. I will canvas our District to see what everyone wants to do (yet again), and hope that you all can see a way to make some sort of season for the kids. The goal is to get about 10 games in. No decision on District, State, Western Region, or even the World Series as of yet. Essentially it boils down to this: 1. If the State Opens and lets kids play sports - then figure out how to do it 2. If the schools or cities will let you use the fields you normally use, then figure out how to do it 3. If you can work with your volunteers (parents, coaches, concessions etc) to make a season happen, then do it. If we can have a Districts at all is questionable. In all cases, follow the guidance of the local health officials, the state, and best practices. (Some leagues are planning on practicing as soon as the Governor opens the playgrounds) Let me know if you have questions. Restarting the Season

All Little League International and the Western Region are giving guidance shortly for restarting the season. You can see their comments below. It is my hope that every league can come up with a plan to have a season restart after May 11. (Or sooner if allowed by local guidance). This is GOOD for the kids, especially after having their lives made chaotic by the COVID-19 virus. Many states are beginning to reopen and we think Washington is not too far behind. We will be getting some further guidance by Western in the next couple of days regarding restarting the season. I would ask all Boards to hold on anything regarding season decisions until after we have our local State DA conference - which is this weekend. Please read below for further details from Western/Little League JP District Administrator We understand that many of our districts, leagues, volunteers, parents, and players want to get back to the Little LeagueR field, and so do we, but our primary focus is on the safety and well-being of all of our members around the world. Little League International will continue to monitor the progression of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) outbreak both in the United States and around the world and provide updates to its local leagues and districts. However, especially as certain states and municipalities begin their phased approaches to reopening, it is highly encouraged that each league and district adheres to the guidelines set forth by their respective state and local government and health officials in terms of public gatherings and sporting events when determining when it is safe to return to normal activities after May 11. Leagues should contact their local health authority for guidance prior to resuming any Little League activities. As mentioned last week, we are planning to have more information and guidance to our volunteers by early May. Making a season of it --- Little league to start up?

Hi All, Little League is asking all the Leagues to consider playing a "regular summer season". starting sometime in early May. As of this moment, The state of Washington is on lock-down to about May 10-12. This means that local health officials will ask everyone to follow "distancing guidelines" and "assembly of a limited number of persons". I think we should all follow that guidance. However, IF the lockdown is removed or alleviated somewhat by May 10-12, then I would hope all of you can find a way to offer a season to kids who have been cooped up for a couple of months. Here's why: 1. It will be VERY good for the kids to be able to get together and play. After going through this "quarantine" for a period of weeks, kids getting together to play baseball on a summer day is going to be just the ticket for re-socialization and letting them burn off the pent up frustration and energy. 2. It will be good for your leagues to show the community that you are there for them. By operating your league you are supporting the community you live in and giving kids and parents alike something to rally around 3. It will be good for "next year". By getting kids to play now, have some fun, and get some exercise, they will be stoked for next season. If we can get 10-12 games in between May 10-12 and end of July, then I think good things will happen. Will we do districts? Unknown at this point. The goal is to focus on getting every kid to play somewhere, for a decent period of time. If we can sneak in ANY post season, it will be gravy but for now, the focus is on getting kids to play. The pandemic looks like it is lessening. The spring is turning out to be nice. I think, hope, and urge you all to see if you can put together a season after May 10. We can discuss details, but the goal is to get everyone thinking "Yeah. we CAN play some this summer".. Stay healthy! Regards JP District Administrator

Resuming the season?

All, Western Region and the Washington State DAs are looking at May 11 as a restart date for the season. This is dependent on "Stay in place" orders, and whether or not they have been lifted. Little League is encouraging all leagues to try and get a "regular" season in and if possible Districts. It's unknown at this time if there will be any other possibility for post season play, but their primary concern is for a regular season to keep all the kids playing during the summer. We won't necessarily have to have a District tournament, but a regular season would be better for everyone.. So think about how to accomplish that. Everyone is aware that fields may be an issue for those of you that don't own your own fields. They are suggesting conversations at this time with cities or schools that have the fields you use and ask them to allow you to extend your season into the summer. They are also asking that you discuss summer play with your players and families, and keep in mind, this is NOT about all-stars, but about every kid getting the chance to play some baseball this year. It's important to be motivated in this direction. They will also publish a set of skills/drills kids can start doing at home to be ready for the summer season. So, the current guidance is, unless something changes, try to start a regular season after May 12, and redraft if you need to. This may change if there is further guidance from health officials after May 11, but for now this is the thinking from Little League. Please let me know if you have questions.
