All, We are looking at our last day today to get the ASAP plans submitted to Little League (do this through the data center). Your safety officers should have this already done. We still have several leagues in both Districts that have not submitted their ASAP plans. By submitting these plans, the District gets a rebate, which in turn can be used for expenses in the District, or for whatever may be needed by leagues. If we don't get them all in, we don't get the rebate, then the fees assessed to the leagues goes up. so PLEASE get your ASAP plans in by midnight tonight THANKS VERY MUCH JP DA WA5/13

Coaches CLinic

All, We have interest in holding a coaches clinic in Newport on the 9th of April (Saturday). This year it will be primarily focused on baseball, and next year we will work to include softball. Does anyone have an interest in attending the clinic? If so, what coaching divisions, and how many from which leagues would like to attend? Please let me know ASAP so I can make the appropriate arrangements. This clinic will focus on several things besides "skills and drills", but also we will include coaching attitude, goals, proper Little League Rules and interpretation for play, field management, game management, etc. Please let me know in the next day or two how many/ which leagues/which divisions would like to send folks to a clinic. Season Kick-off thoughts

All, I wanted to encourage you all as boards/presidents to start talking to each other right now, if you haven't already. By working together as a district, communicating, and focusing on executing a good season, we can make a stronger family of Little League all the way around. Some topics that are coming up almost daily: 1. Where do I get umpires? Can I pay umpires? (No, you are not supposed to pay your umpires unless you are also buying supplemental insurance that covers them and the league, L&I, filing 1099's or W2s, and more). Volunteer umpires are covered under LL Insurance! Plus a LL trained umpire understands LL rules. This is kinda funny to me because we just had a LL Umpire Clinic, and everyone was invited. Some of the people that did not show up, are now asking where the umpires are? They come from interested people in your own leagues. You have to grow them up. 2. Coaches Clinic. we will have a coaches clinic when enough people ask to have one. Otherwise I will work with individual leagues to get sort of a "private" clinic going. EVERY LEAGUE SHOULD HAVE SOME COACHES TRAINING FOR THEIR NEW COACHES. Otherwise the kids are usually the ones that suffer under the hands of a bad coach or manager 3. Team parents - get them assigned early and get them involved! 4. Scorekeepers - get them trained, assigned early and get them on the fields keeping "book". Remember when you go to Districts for the post-season tournaments, YOU CAN'T KEEP BOOK OUTSIDE OF THE DUGOUT. 5. Reciprocation --- I have a lot to say about this: First of all, the goal of Little League is not about baseball, it's about building BETTER individuals, and stronger community. This means the leaders of the leagues AND parents need to be the good examples. I have had MANY presidents call me and ask the question "I am willing to travel to someone to give them a game, but they won't come to my fields". I call this "reciprocation". or lack of it. All the presidents should work together to give as many home games as they get when it comes to working with another league in a different town to pick up games. If someone gives you a home game, then you should give them a travel game. Some presidents have said "Well, my parents and coaches won't put up with that!". too bad. And it's not really realistic. Many leagues have shortages in one division or another. If you are strong in majors and weak in minors, then you might need minors' games to make up enough games to get in a "legal" season. And if someone is weak in Majors and strong in minors, they may ask YOU for some majors games. and of course you don't want to travel majors, but do in minors. be kind, and smart, and work together to come up with a schedule that gets everyone what they need. If you all work together, the season is good for everyone. Now, to the parents/coaches that say "I don't want to go to XYZ to play a game". well make it a double header so there are two games (I sanction double headers for Majors and above, not minors and below). Also, a lot of these same parents don't mind spending $1500 to go somewhere to play a travel ball tournament for 3-4 games on a weekend. In our area, it's smart to travel to play, and to host others than will travel to you. Why? It gives the kids another "look" - gets them an idea that there are other places to visit, see other things, expand horizons. It gets them into competitive baseball at a different level. It shows them other fields, other players, and other styles of playing baseball. It's good for the coaches as they learn new tricks, and see teams before District play. All of that is good. Nothing on the schedule in our district(s) require an over night stay. maybe a lunch they would buy anyway, and getting the kids in the car an hour and a half earlier so they can go play baseball. Be Kind, Be Smart, give other people games at your fields, and travel to other fields for games with them. All, See below – this is a special set of events for Little Leaguers at the Mariners field. They are looking for volunteers to help out. Let me know if you are interested. The Mariners let Little Leaguers parade around the field, and there may be some specially priced tickets for those that wish to attend! JP DA WA5/13 Subject: RE: Little League Days - 2022 Good morning, We are just under 1 month away from our first Little League Day of 2022 and our first parade in almost 3 years! I’m thrilled that we will be able to get the kids back on the field. As in the past, we will need some volunteers to help line the field to keep everybody off the grass and keep the line moving. Please let me know if any of you are interested and which of these dates you would be able to help: * Sunday, April 24th vs. Kansas City Royals * Sunday, May 8th vs. Tampa Bay * Sunday, June 12th vs. Red Sox I have a couple of Group Suites set aside for each of those games, so anybody that helps can stay an enjoy the game in a Suite after. Important: new this season – our gates will open 90 minutes before the game instead of the 2 hours we were used to. I’m working with our Ballpark Operations team and Grounds Crew to make sure we have all our ducks in a row to make it a great experience for everybody. I’ll let you know details once I know them for sure and then I’ll pass them along to everybody who has purchased a Little League ticket. Currently, 40% of the leagues in Washington District 13 have submitted an approved ASAP plan. We encourage you to check the status of your leagues' ASAP submissions/approvals and follow up with the leagues in your district. Please log into your District account in the Little League Data Center and click on "View Reports," then select "View ASAP Safety Plan Submission Statuses for Leagues in your District." Please note, we have added a new feature to this page which shows the percentage of leagues in your district that have submitted safety plans to date. A separate area on the same page shows the percentage of safety plans that have been approved to date. Please remember that safety plans must be submitted and approved to qualify for the early submission incentive. Also, please remember that if your district charters or plans to charter a separate district league, you are responsible for submitting a safety plan for that league. Failure to do so may result in your district missing out on the early incentive award. All, Thanks to all who attended the umpire clinic in Walla Walla this past Saturday, and thanks to Steve Raab, and Jay Rivera , the President of Walla Walla Valley and their UIC at Liberty Lake - great job to all! I will be sending out league assessments this week. Each league will be invoiced for $750. This is to go to help defray District Expenses, like paying Dennis' gas to come and put on a clinic. Also PLEASE GET YOUR ASAP PLANS SUBMITTED. This is a required submittal by Little League, AND if it's done before April 1, the District gets a rebate from the program to help defray other costs. We need 100% participation (all leagues need to submit by April 1). As a reminder, our District Tournament this year is held at Liberty Lake, . We will have 9-10, 10-11, Majors, and Intermediate. Date is end of June. We are looking at a coaching Clinic in Cheney at West Plains LL at the end of March. details on that coming out soon. JP DA WA5/13

Time Change for Umpire Clinic at Liberty Lake

All, We have reached a compromise of sorts. Dennis (The State UIC) says that he can start the Umpire Clinic at 11 AM on Sunday at Liberty Lake. His preference was to start at 9:00 so he could get back to the Seattle Area by 10:00 PM, but he says he will make 11:00 Work. SO - we will reset our Start Time for 11 AM. Hi All, I need to get a head count of who you are sending to the Umpire Clinic this SUNDAY at 1:00 PM (May be moved to 11 AM). EVERY LEAGUE Should send the UIC, or their proxy. Moving Start Time of Umpire Clinic?

All, The umpire clinic is this Sunday - how do you all feel about moving the start time to 10:00 or 11:00 AM? The UIC for the state has to travel back to Seattle Sunday night and would prefer not to get in after midnight. so I promised him I would ask if it is OK with everyone to start a bit earlier. If a sufficient number of you say "OK" to moving it to 10:00 or 11:00 then we will reset the start time. I NEED A HEAD COUNT AS WELL of HOW MANY WILL ATTEND.
